GhanaNews24 exists to give readers accurate, fair and useful journalism. This page explains the principles our newsroom follows from the moment a story is pitched to the moment it is published — and after.

Our mission

We report the news that affects our readers’ lives, explain why it matters, and hold people and institutions in positions of power to account. We aim to be first with the facts, but never at the expense of getting them right.

Accuracy and verification

  • We confirm important facts with primary sources — documents, official records, data and people with direct knowledge — before publishing.
  • Claims that could harm a person’s reputation are put to that person or organisation, and we give them a fair chance to respond. If they decline, we say so.
  • Figures, quotations, names and titles are checked against the original source. Quotes are not altered in meaning; we do not invent or merge quotes.
  • Photos and videos from social media or readers are verified for date, place and authenticity before use, and credited where possible.
  • When a story is developing, we tell readers what is confirmed, what is not yet known, and update the story as facts emerge.

Sources

We name our sources whenever we can, so readers can judge their reliability. We grant anonymity only when the information is of clear public interest, cannot be obtained on the record, and the source could face harm, retaliation or loss of livelihood. At least one editor must know the identity of an anonymous source, and we explain to readers why anonymity was granted. We do not pay sources for information.

News, analysis and opinion

News reports present facts and the views of the people involved, without the writer’s personal opinion. Analysis explains context and consequences and is labelled as such. Opinion and commentary pieces are clearly marked, represent the views of their authors, and are held to the same standards of factual accuracy.

Content from other publishers and agencies

When we publish or summarise material from news agencies, press releases or other publishers, we credit the original source and link to it where possible. Press releases are not presented as independent reporting.

Advertising and sponsored content

Advertisers and sponsors have no influence over our editorial decisions. Paid content is always clearly labelled as “Sponsored” or “Advertisement” and kept visually distinct from our journalism. Our reporters do not write advertising copy. See our Ownership & Funding page for how we are financed.

Use of technology and AI

Our stories are written and edited by people. We may use software tools to help with tasks such as transcription, translation or spotting errors, but a journalist is responsible for every word we publish and checks any machine-assisted output before it appears on the site.

Fairness and harm

We treat the people we report on with dignity. We take particular care with children, victims of crime, people in grief and other vulnerable people, and we do not identify victims of sexual offences. We avoid gratuitous images of violence and warn readers about distressing content.

Errors and accountability

When we get something wrong, we fix it quickly and openly — see our Corrections Policy. Our journalists follow our Ethics Policy, and readers can raise concerns at any time through our Feedback Policy.

Who is responsible

The editorial team listed on our Masthead is responsible for what we publish. To reach the newsroom, email ghananews78@gmail.com or use our contact page.
