The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, and the Deputy Minister of Communications and Digital Technology, Mohammed Adams Sukparu, are in stable condition following a road accident on the Bolgatanga–Tumu Road on Thursday, February 12, 2026.
The two ministers were travelling to the Upper West Region for official engagements, including activities to mark the 40th anniversary celebrations of Tumu College of Education and Jahan College of Education, when the incident occurred.
In a statement issued the same day, Hashmin Mohammed, Press Secretary to the Education Minister, confirmed the incident and assured the public of the ministers’ safety.
“The Ministers and their respective teams were en route to official engagements to commemorate the 40th Anniversary celebrations of Tumu College of Education and Jahan College of Education in the Upper West Region when the incident occurred. All members of the convoy are currently in stable condition and receiving the necessary medical attention,” the statement said.
Emergency services responded swiftly, and all affected individuals were attended to by medical personnel. Authorities have since commenced investigations to establish the cause of the accident.
The incident has drawn national attention, with well-wishers across the country expressing relief at the ministers’ stable condition and calling for improved road safety measures on major highways.
