Renowned Ghanaian businessman and philanthropist, Ibrahim Mahama, has been conferred with an Honorary Doctorate by the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) in recognition of his significant contributions to mining, construction, and philanthropy.

The award ceremony was attended by the President of the Republic, John Dramani Mahama, who expressed pride in his brother’s achievements and praised his entrepreneurial instincts. In his remarks, the President recalled that Ibrahim Mahama’s business acumen was evident from childhood, describing him as a determined and innovative thinker whose ventures have had a lasting impact on Ghana’s economy.

UMaT also used the occasion to announce plans to establish the Ibrahim Mahama Institute of Precious and Green Ghana, an initiative aimed at promoting sustainable mining practices, environmental stewardship, and the development of Ghana’s green economy. The institute is expected to play a key role in research, innovation, and capacity building within the extractive and environmental sectors.

The honorary doctorate and the planned institute highlight the growing collaboration between academia and industry, as well as the importance of private-sector leadership in advancing sustainable development in Ghana.
