The Kotobabi District Police Command has arrested two suspected street robbers during an intelligence-led patrol at Dzorwulu in Accra, leading to the recovery of several stolen items.

The suspects, identified as Stephen Gletsu, 37, and Mohammed Sheriff, 20, were arrested on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, while officers were on routine patrol using a service motorbike.

According to police accounts, the patrol team observed the suspects riding an unregistered black Royal 125 motorbike under suspicious circumstances. Both men were reportedly clad in black outfits and helmets, with the pillion rider allegedly wielding a cutlass.

Upon spotting the police, the suspects attempted to flee, triggering a pursuit. Officers fired warning shots during the chase, causing the suspects to lose control of their motorbike and crash near Roman Ridge, close to the Nigerian High Commission. The pair then attempted to escape on foot but were swiftly apprehended.

A search conducted after their arrest led to the retrieval of several stolen items, including mobile phones—iPhone, Samsung, Infinix, Itel, and Nokia—a necklace, and cash amounting to GH¢2,690 and $2.

Police said the suspects sustained minor injuries during the arrest and were treated at the Police Hospital before being discharged.

During interrogation, the suspects allegedly confessed to carrying out multiple robbery attacks across the Accra Metropolis. Several victims have since identified both the suspects and their recovered belongings, recounting how they were threatened with a machete and robbed of phones, money, and other valuables.

The two suspects have been remanded in police custody to assist with ongoing investigations. Police operations following the arrest have also led to the apprehension of four additional accomplices, who are currently cooperating with investigators.

The suspects have been arraigned before a court and are expected to reappear on Wednesday, February 4, 2026.

Meanwhile, the Accra Regional Police Command has reiterated its commitment to intensifying operations to curb street robbery and other criminal activities across the metropolis.
