Fresh revelations have linked Nollywood actor Stanley Amadi to an alleged plot aimed at violently overthrowing the administration of Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, according to investigative reports from Nigeria.

Stanley Amadi, a well-known figure in Nigeria’s film industry, has built a career as an actor, director, and production manager. His works include directing The Album and Tiger King—both produced in 2008—and producing Cornerstone in 2019. In 2024, he appeared in the film Once Upon a Dream.

Alleged Role in Coup Plot

According to reports first published by Premium Times, Amadi was arrested in September 2025 alongside several military officers accused of planning an illegal takeover of Nigeria’s federal government.

Sources familiar with the investigation allege that Amadi, a former chairman of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Enugu State chapter, was recruited to act as a propagandist for the suspected plotters.

Security sources claim his alleged responsibility was not military in nature but focused on shaping public narratives and messaging in support of the planned takeover.

Investigators further allege that the plot extended beyond dissent, with reports claiming that senior government officials were marked for assassination. Those reportedly named include:

  • President Bola Ahmed Tinubu

  • Vice President Kashim Shettima

  • Senate President Godswill Akpabio

  • Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas

Authorities have not accused Amadi of bearing arms.

Nigerian Military Confirms Completion of Investigation

On Monday, Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters confirmed that investigations into the alleged coup attempt had been concluded.

In an official statement, the military said officers implicated in the plot would face court-martial proceedings, describing the investigation as thorough and conducted in accordance with established military procedures.

“The findings identified several officers with allegations of plotting to overthrow the government,” the statement said, adding that such actions contradict the ethics and values of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

The military further noted that civilians named in the investigation, including Stanley Amadi, would be prosecuted in civil courts.

Political Reactions Emerge

Meanwhile, reactions have begun to surface from political circles. Joe Igbokwe, a chieftain of Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), shared an image of Brigadier General Musa Abubakar on social media, alleging that the officer played a leading role in the coup plot.

In a Facebook post, Igbokwe stated that he had been informed of Abubakar’s alleged involvement and warned that those responsible would be dealt with decisively.

He emphasized that President Tinubu’s administration would not treat the matter lightly.

Ongoing Legal Process

Authorities have stressed that all individuals named remain suspects and are entitled to due process under the law. Court proceedings are expected to determine the extent of involvement and responsibility in the alleged plot.
