Ghanaian YouTuber and travel content creator Wode Maya has explained why he did not join American streamer IShowSpeed on a helicopter trip from Akropong to Accra during the streamer’s recent visit to Ghana.
IShowSpeed arrived in Ghana on January 26, 2026, as part of his ongoing Africa tour, aimed at exploring the continent’s culture, tourism, and youth lifestyle through live streaming.
His Ghana experience began at the Asenema Waterfalls in Akropong, Eastern Region, where Wode Maya guided him through the tour and showcased local attractions to a global audience.
However, while IShowSpeed later flew from Akropong to Accra in a helicopter to continue the live stream, Wode Maya was noticeably absent from the flight.
Why Wode Maya Declined the Helicopter Ride
Speaking in an interview with Sammykay Media on January 29, 2026, Wode Maya revealed that he deliberately chose not to board the helicopter, opting instead to return to Accra by road in a car convoy.
“You just saw what happened in Ghana,” Wode Maya said, a statement widely interpreted as a reference to the August 6, 2025 helicopter crash that shook the country.
He explained further:
“Everything you saw at the palace was a success. I didn’t want to be in a chopper so I took a car to Accra. Personal preference — I just wanted to be on the road.”
According to him, the decision was purely personal and not linked to any issue with the organisers or the trip itself.
IShowSpeed’s Ghana Experience
Ghana was one of the key stops on IShowSpeed’s Africa tour, which began on December 29, 2025, and included visits to countries such as Morocco, Egypt, Kenya, South Africa, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Benin, Angola, Zambia, Eswatini, and Senegal.
After arriving in Ghana from Benin, the streamer enjoyed a five-hour live broadcast, visiting notable locations including:
-
Akropong
-
Black Star Square
-
Bukom Boxing Arena
-
Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum
-
The Shea Butter Museum, where he received a massage treatment
The Ghana leg of the tour attracted widespread attention online, sparking conversations about tourism promotion, digital influence, and cultural exchange.
